Assessment Checklist

The Blog:

  • Students must follow the class blog via email and allow class mates to have access to their own blog.
  • Students must ensure their blog is listed on the class blog by emailing the teacher the blog address.
  • Students must include a post that discusses important privacy issues when using social media and a link to a resource or guide on this issue.
  • Students must include a post which discusses important social media etiquette issues and standards of behaviour when using social media in a professional setting and include a link to a resource of guide on this issue.
  • Students must include a post which discussed copyright implications with regard to uploading material to social media. 
  • Students must include a post which discusses different ways libraries use a variety of social media tools and link to at least 3 different social media accounts from Australian libraries.
  • Students must include at least one link in a blog post to the blog of another classmate where they have commented on that person's post.
  • Students must include at least one post where they are sharing the content of a post on a library related blog using the share blog feature at the bottom of each post in blogger.
  • Students must share a blog posts to their Twitter feed create a post showing how they did that.
  • Students must share a blog post to their Facebook feed.
  • Students must embed their live Twitter feed into their blog using a Blogger gadget tool.
  • Students must embed a link to all their social media feeds in their blog sidebar.
  • Students must include a post with a link to a library related Youtube chanel in their blog and embed a video from that chanel into one of their posts.
  • Students must create two additional pages for their blog, one containing a list of their favoutite social media tools that could be used in a library and the other containing a list of at least 6 resources that might be useful to library staff considering including social media functionality from their library's website.

Facebook:

  • Students must connect with and befriend the Facebook account of the subject teacher, Margie Teaches Libstudies. Ensure that Margie is following their page.
  • Students must join the class Facebook group, VU Library Studies Social Media Classes 2014.
  • Students must post at least 10 status updates throughout the course.
  • Students must follow the Facebook pages of at least 5 library related organisations.
  • Students must join the ALIA Social Media Group via Facebook and the ALIA National Library Technicians Group.
  • Students must share the address of their Blog, Twitter, Pinterest and Scoopit accounts via their Facebook page.
  • Students should link their Facebook page to the Twitter feed so that they can share posts from Facebook to Twitter.

Twitter:

  • All students must create a Twitter account. The Twitter account must be created solely for use in this subject and must not include links to personal material other than that which is course related. Students must be mindful of their privacy and respectful of the privacy of the classmates and any others they follow via their social media accounts. Follow the@MargieLibstudy account and ensure that Margie is following their account.
  • Students must follow the Twitter feeds of at least 5 of their classmates or other VU Library Studies students studying social media.
  • Students must follow the Twitter feeds of at least 5 library related organisations.
  • Students must post at least 10 tweets to their Twitter feed over the course of the semester.
  • Students must repost at least 5 tweets for other library related organisations.
  • Students must post an image via their Twitter account.
  • Students must post some library related video footage from Vimeo via their Twitter feed.
  • Students must incorporate the use of a #vulibstud2014 into all their tweets.
  • Students must link to a resource which discusses using Twitter in a library.
  • Students must link their Twitter feed to the Facebook page so that they can share posts between them.
  • Students must embed their live Twitter feed into the sidebar of their blog.

Pinterest:

  • Students must create a Pinterest account for this subject. The Pinterest account must be created solely for use in this subject and must not include links to personal material other than that which is course related. Students must be mindful of their privacy and respectful of the privacy of the classmates and any others they follow via their social media accounts.
  • Students must follow the Pinterest account of MargieLibstudy and ensure that Margie is following their own Pinterest boards.
  • Students must create at least 2 Pinterest boards of library related material and add at least 5 pins to each board. Include the Pinterest boards of at least Australian 2 public libraries and repin at least 2 pins from library vboards to each of their own boards.
  • Students must share their pins with other students in the subject.
  • Students must link their Pinterest boards with their Twitter account so that they can share new pins via their Twitter feed.

Scoop.it:

  • Students must create a Scoop.it account for this subject. The Scoop.it account must be created solely for use in this subject and must not include links to personal material other than that which is course related. Students must be mindful of their privacy and respectful of the privacy of the classmates and any others they follow via their social media accounts.
  • Students must follow the Margie Teaches Libstudies account on Scoop.it and make sure that Margie is following your account.
  • Students must follow the Scoop.it boards of at least 5 library related organisations or people.
  • Students must scoop at least 10 items to their board.
  • Students must share at least 3 Scoops via your Facebook and Twitter account.
  • Write a post on your Facebook page outlining how you think libraries could benefit form using content curation tools such as Scoop.it. Include links to 2 other content curation tools like Scoop.it.
